We Love Polish Pottery!
 about the pottery

Early decorations were inspired by peacock feathers now commonly known as the "eyespot" pattern and were created by farmers of the region.

Traditional patterns use greens, blues, reddish brown and earth tones that encourage liberal mixing and matching with other patterns. Each piece of stoneware is handmade with white clay found in Poland. Plates and bowls were originally hand thrown while all other forms were cast from molds. The stoneware is then fired at temperatures in excess of 1350 degrees centigrade. (The high-firing ensures highly durable stoneware which will retain heat and cold for extended periods.) Lead-free and cadmium-free paints and glazes are then applied. A stamping technique, (natural stamps hand cut from sea sponges) and free hand painting are used to create patterns.

Today, this European folk art is preserved by skilled artisans and is more artistic in design. Traditional patterns are created by highly skilled artists and are not limited production. Signature patterns are created by highly skilled artists and are more artistic in the design. These pieces bear the name of the artist and are referred to as "UNIKAT", translated "unique". These pieces are rarer and highly collectible. Since each piece is hand made, slight variations in color and pattern may exist. This is characteristic of any piece of art. Historically, some of the famous original designs included those commissioned by renowned Frederick the Great, King of Prussia, in the 18th Century.

All of the pottery is oven, microwave, dishwasher and freezer safe because the artists carefully select their clays and bake them at 2246 degrees Fahrenheit. However, one should avoid sudden, extreme changes in temperature. The artisans coat all the colored patterns with a transparent protective glaze in order to prevent rubbing, wearing, and food sticking.

This is heirloom quality stoneware! But these items are not crafted to merely sit in a curio cabinet and look nice; rather, they are fashioned for both attractiveness and constant use. Take advantage of this unique opportunity to own the finest of the Old World today!
